VSCode in Screen brings the full VSCode IDE experience to automated Screen assessments. Candidates now solve coding tasks in a real VSCode environment with IntelliSense and terminal support, the same environment previously available only in Interview.
Screen assessments have historically used a basic in-browser code editor. With VSCode in Screen, candidates work in a full IDE instead, and reviewers get the same rich set of signals previously reserved for Interview and project tasks.
VSCode tasks can be mixed with other task types in the same assessment, so you don't need to choose between a modern coding environment and your existing task library.
Setting Up an Assessment
When adding tasks to an assessment, you can filter specifically for VSCode content. VSCode tasks can sit alongside any other task type in the same assessment.
If AI Assistance is turned on for the assessment and it includes a VSCode task, the AI Copilot becomes available to candidates on that task.
Proctoring and behavioral-signal detection apply to VSCode tasks the same way they do elsewhere, with one exception: typing-pattern detection isn't currently supported for VSCode content. All other available signals are captured and contribute to the assessment's overall integrity risk.
Reviewer Experience
Each VSCode task gives reviewers a complete picture in one place, without needing to piece together evidence from separate views::
- Detailed behavioral signals
-
The candidate's solution, viewable or downloadable
-
A full session replay with timeline and detected signals, and the AI transcript, if Copilot was used
-
Code health for the submitted solution
The overall integrity risk for the assessment reflects the behavioral signals detected across all tasks, including VSCode tasks.
The PDF Report
The downloadable PDF report has been rebuilt to match the live report. It now includes a table of contents, an integrity section with the overall risk, detailed behavioral signals with links to where they occurred, code health, the downloadable solution, and the AI transcript.
Candidate Experience
Candidates complete VSCode tasks in a full IDE with IntelliSense and terminal support. If AI Assistance is enabled for the task, the AI Copilot is available.
