Candidates can now use Claude Code directly in the VSCode terminal during an Interview, and the interviewer shares the same live session. Every prompt the candidate types and every response Claude returns is synchronised across participants in real time.
Until now, the VSCode interview environment had no agentic AI in the terminal, so interviews could not reflect AI-assisted workflows. With this update, interviewers can now evaluate candidates the way engineers actually work: alongside an AI coding agent.
How It Works
Claude Code comes preinstalled and preconfigured within Codility's own AI infrastructure, so there are no API keys, logins, or onboarding dialogs for anyone to deal with. Claude Code is now in Preview, is managed through the interview AI Assistance settings, and the session is captured in the candidate report.
For Interviewers / Reviewers
Claude Code is available in the VSCode terminal of the Interview, managed through the interview AI Assistance settings where it can be enabled or disabled (it is also included when AI Assistance is enabled by default).
You and the candidate share the same live session: it is synchronised across participants, so the candidate's prompts and Claude's responses appear for both of you in real time.
The Claude Code session is captured in the candidate report — task details and prompts are visible there after the interview.
Nothing to install or configure. The session is already connected to Codility's AI infrastructure.
For Candidates
Open the terminal in the VSCode environment and start Claude Code (run
claude). There is no login, API key, or onboarding: the trust and onboarding dialogs are pre-accepted.Claude Code is preconfigured with Anthropic models (Claude Sonnet 4.5 and Haiku 4.5), routed through Codility's proxy rather than an external account.
The candidate prompts Claude Code as they normally would, to explore, write, or refactor code

Does the candidate need an Anthropic account or API key?
No. Claude Code is preinstalled and preconfigured to route through Codility's AI infrastructure, and the onboarding and trust dialogs are pre-accepted.
Can interviewers interact with Claude code?
Yes, this is different from AI Copilot. The interviewer can use Claude to create a task for example that later the candidate has to solve.
Which models are available?
