CodeLive is a great way to assess candidates in a real-time technical interview. You can have multiple hiring managers/engineers join the session and work on a problem with the candidate concurrently, connecting voice and video as needed.
You can find out more about CodeLive from the video below:
Codility provides 3 ways to run your CodeLive interviews - Whiteboard mode, our most flexible option for on-the-fly tasks, Template Mode for structured interviews, and Report Mode for a continuation of the candidate experience.
Every CodeLive interview has:
- Video/audio call capabilities
- Whiteboard
- Canvas
When creating your CodeLive interview you can assign a candidate to it. Please note that it doesn't send any email notification to the candidate.
Video/audio
You can join the CodeLive interview with audio and video for a live interview. As an interviewer, you can enable fullscreen video mode so the interviewer(s) can minimize distractions when coding isn’t happening and focus on speaking with the candidate directly.
Whiteboard
While you can create a session that would contain Whiteboard only, it is also included in other modes (Template and Report). Whiteboard allows you to work with your candidate using your own content. You can start from scratch with the candidate or pre-fill the task description right before the session. You can see the languages available in Whiteboard here.
Canvas
Canvas is another feature available in our remote interviewing product CodeLive. Using the Canvas, both interviewer and candidate can quickly draw diagrams and shapes to translate technical questions on a high level.
Interviewer Notes
Interviewers with a Codility seat can now take notes during a CodeLive interview directly in the application. Notes can be reviewed and edited in the interview report. In-app notes make the interview process more streamlined by reducing the number of tools needed and are a convenient way to consolidate feedback and notes on candidate performance.
- Interviewer notes are not visible to candidates
- Interviewers can only edit their own notes, and can only see others’ notes on the interview report if they have an admin seat.
- Notes are available in all CodeLive interview modes.
Interview Plan
An interview plan can be added during the creation of the CodeLive session where you can enter sections/questions to discuss with a candidate. You can preview, edit and remove the plan, as well.
When the interviewer access the CodeLive session, they will see the plan and enter the candidates responses and notes. These are saved automatically and will appear in the Interview Report.

How to join a CodeLive Session
In order to join a CodeLive session, you'll need a link to that specific CodeLive Interview. This link is generated during the interview creation, so if you didn't create the interview, then you'll need to receive it from that person.
If you're not logged in, then you'll need to do that after clicking on the link. You need to have a Collaborator permission level or higher. You can see how to use CodeLive as a Collaborator below:
How do candidates join a CodeLive Session
When you're setting up a CodeLive session in advance, you need to send your candidate the session URL.
When it's time for the interview, the candidate will open the URL, click "enter as candidate" and fill in their details before entering the session. You can see how joining a CodeLive interview looks on the candidate end below:
Please note, only once the interviewer has entered and clicked "Start interview" the candidate can enter the interview.
